Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Happy New year (almost!)

Any suggestions on what to play this new years eve, I cant decide between 1990, 1987, 1983, 1982, or 1981 new years eve shows. If not these then which year, or any other suggestions? I will lso be playing the dvd of closing of winterland, and probably will sync it so the countdown plays in real time. I have everything i need for a great night. Company, booze and a few treats.

When you want to wind down the festivities but keep the NYE theme, the 12/31/89 Dark Star is very nice and laid back (at least the first 10 minutes or so, before it turns into Space).

A Happy and prosperous New Year to all the gathered Tribe!!!!

I am celebrating a 10/20 anniversiry(married 10-together 20) tonight and will be listening to the Closing and also to the so called 12/31/68 show from IA,http://www.archive.org/details/gd68-xx-xx.sbd.vernon.9426.sbeok.shnf, although I know its not all from that date, if any, but what a dream if it had and considering its 40 freakin years ago its good for sentimental value.

Remember to eat your pickled hearingat midnight if you want lotsa money in 09', my grandma taught me that, and she was rich-lol.

Peace, Light and Love on the all your Being!

cheers guys, plenty of options. The 72 looks tasty.

It occurs to me that my new years party might need to last until mid january.

Not to worry.

As we say in the MP89,

I couldn't decide where to go, so I started with the last NYE show ('91) and am working my way backwards, listening to a bit of each years show as I go. Currently on 1985.

Probably will pop in the Winterland '78 DVD to bring in the new year.....If I'm still awake. My sorry ass will probably be asleep on the couch by 10PM as per usual. LOL

Happy New Year to one and all!!
May peace and happiness be a part of all your days!!

Enjoy and be safe!!

Being the fool assigned to mind the office on Hogmanay, I got my party started with Live at Alembic Studios on 1968-12-31 (lots of lovely elevenses) and currently chair dancing my way through the Shows on This Day in History...a plethora of options!

Whichever way your pleasure tends, have a goodly New Years Eve and all the best to you and yours for 2009.
And that goes for all who make the forum the grooveworthy old palace it is! :~)

Nice choice, Mr.Smith. I was also perusing the many options for this day and was unsure as where to start. Well, now I know and it's off I go.

Hope your New Year finds you well and content. As usual, the perfunctory glass of Laphroaig will be tipped to the East this night.

Nice call on the Leap Frog. I can't help but instantly take a liking to a fan of the Islay peat monsters.

I'm deciding between a bottle of Highland Park 18, 1996 Double Matured Lagavulin or cracking my 83 Signatory Port Ellen.

I also have a bottle of Gordon and McPhail 1954 Linkwood - bottled in 1997. I call it my cougar malt - 43 years old, smooth, complex and it will take you on a ride you will never forget and you will never go back to anything under the age of 25. Whoops, I thought we were talking whisky, sorry.

Direwolf - trust me, Diet Pepsi is much better than what we are talking about. In all seriousness, best to you in the upcoming year. One day at a time my friend, and we all get there together.

I prefer the Laguvulin to the Laphroig but that's me. Sounds as if you have a very difficult decision. Perhaps I can help you. How about if I come over and act as a taster to assure that you pick the right dram to celebrate the new year. Of course it may take me more than one glass to make the correct decision......

How soon can you be here?

I was stationed in Scotland for 3 1/2 years from 84-88 and at one point had about 170 different malts in my closet. Some were gems, some were worse than leftover haggis squeezings. Loch Dhu (Loch Doo doo) was one of my favorite horrible whiskys.

Still have a pretty good selection of stuff left. Lots of Springbanks, a nice 61 Mortlach (birth year), Longrow, Glen Rothes, Dailuane, Rosebank, Balvenie Traditional, Brora, Aberlour a'bunadh (Batch #6), a few Bowmores, 68 Tomatin, Caol Ila, Ben Rinnes, Port Ellen, Dallas Dhu, Glenfarclas, 1874 Replica Macallan, Glen Morangie (Sherrywood and Port wood), Highland Park and of course, the peat monsters - Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

Tossing back malt whisky while streaming the Dead circa '71????

It doesn't get any better than that unless it involves twin redheads, a 12 x 12 tarp and a couple of quarts of massage oil.

Wait, that was back in 82.................

Single malts have long been my weakspot, but today brings back fond memories of last year when my father in law opened up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. Good god.

winterland 78 doesn't need much syncing. just play and hit pause on the countdown as the ten - no twelve foot burning reefer etc. and hit play with about 5 or six seconds to go. Hey though lets not get too hung up on accuracate timing. This is the Grateful Dead and we're all on Tralfamadorian time anyway. . .
